WELCOME!I’m Lauren — a gentle wanderlust who lives in a little valley nestled between Sacramento and San Francisco. I embrace life’s littlest and most poignant moments, and share them here.
FOLLOW @theurbanhippie ON INSTAGRAM!I love coming across gems like these. Priceless animated GIFS that we made one afternoon when Laura felt so good despite that cancer diagnoses. Her laughter has been on my mind, largely because we should be celebrating her birthday this week and also because I think of her words and advice when I’m faced with new things and big decisions. Now, as I’m buying a new home, I keep thinking of her creativity and vision and all the ways she would jump in — and urge me to jump in. This morning, as I pondered my ability to manage a DIY pergola, I looked back at the outdoor oasis she and Grant created at their home. I love that she is still inspiring me even though she’s been gone nearly a decade. The photos took me back to conversations, art days, cookouts and backyard chats. I’m thankful for the photos and for the memories that I worried would fade, but haven’t one bit. #inspiration #memories #friendship #cancersucks #melanoma #HappyBirthdayGypsyGirl #NoWayForgotten #ImStillJustWaitingForYouToComeBackFromALongGetawayInCostaRicaCan we just talk about these river flowers? #SunsOutOfficeClosed #NotExactly #GrowWild #mokelumne #paddlefindsAfter months of being antsy and waiting for the current to slow, we finally got out for a paddle. It was the perfect day (and included friends who met us at the lake with a truck to take us back up the river ... the best option, ever 😂). #paddle #kayak #paddleboard #mokelumneriverProud auntie 🙋♀️ over here! My beautiful niece Sophia Loren graduated high school last night, and I just can’t believe it. So many times we talked about the possibilities of life after graduation, and here we are. She’s smart, deeply intuitive, creative, thoughtful and thought-provoking, compassionate, loving — and she’s ready to take on the world. So proud to be your auntie and friend! I love you! (Swipe for some of my favorites of Sophia through the years 💜💜).Please forward all calls here. #Summerbound #lake #MyFavoriteDesk #attheoffice #thecreativeway🌿🌿🖤My Peace Lily is blooming again this week. It was a gift from my mom after we lost Sara pup in January. This is the first time it has bloomed, and I’m so happy. #peacelilyI’m going to miss spending Thursday nights with these crazy teenagers. Ten weeks ago, we invited 18 student from different high schools to join our program that gives them a 360-view of hospital and healthcare careers. They practiced robotic surgery in the OR, visited babies in the NICU, made it through a zombie disaster drill, resuscitated Ted, the test dummy and whole lots more. They came as shy strangers and left as besties, now promising to stay in touch (guys, they have a massive group chat where they all talk throughout the week!). Thursdays with you @edwards_6 @nicolemurph5 have been awesome — thanks for your vision! Let the next cohort begin! #studenthealthcareleadersGood morning, my plant babies. Summer is upon us. Time to wake up and reach, reach, reach for your sunshiny dreams. #PlantBabies #FiddleLeafFig #IWantAJungleSomeday #ThatMorningLightTho #GrowWhereYouArePlanted #PlantRescueSocietyOfOne #TalkToAndShootYourPlants

It was only and hour in the air, and there I was. Why, then, has it taken me nine years to return to that not-so-little city that holds a huge piece of my heart and still gives my tummy butterfly … Continue reading
On a weekend in January, when the waves should have been too cold to trample into and the sun should have been hidden in a misty haze, four girlfriends and I held ourselves up in a little beach town and … Continue reading
I fell in love with Nicaragua early in the morning. We hopped on a bus in Playa del Coco, Costa Rica, long before sunrise. We were the first to be picked up, the first to meet our guide, Marco, and our … Continue reading
Mostly, we drove quietly to the rainforest. Watching the wind blow the palms outside. Watching the clothes lines zoom by. Watching the already lush countryside turn even more green, thick and tropical. Because we were a small group — only … Continue reading
I like that I’ve been home from Costa Rica for two weeks, and it still feels fresh in my mind. I hate when you return to normal life after something amazing and it starts to fade into dream mode. If … Continue reading
^^ Wild monkeys hopped into our boat looking for food. It had been five weeks since they’d made an appearance during these boat tours, so we felt extra special. ^^^^ Crocodiles always on the prowl ^^^^ Iguanas populate the treetops … Continue reading
