I have a blog, several e-mail accounts, texting, Twitter, Facebook, a few mailing address and two tin cans strung together — yet I sometimes fail at communication. Some of my best and longest friends live so far away, and while I think of them constantly, I forget to tell them.
My dear friend Desiree is one of those people. Des is, to sum it up, awesome. Here are all of the reasons I love her: She is very smart. She likes to read. She likes photography, photographers and cameras. She has great musical taste. She is a great person to get lost in Hollywood with. She has traveled to place I really want to go like Cuba, Cambodia and Brazil. She has already beat cancer. She likes art and artists. She will wait in line with you at Pink’s hot dogs. She makes me feel comfortable and happy. She drives really fast and you get there quicker. She lets me sleep on her floor. She makes me feel normal. She will help you stalk big-time magazine editors at their home in Laurel Canyon. She doesn’t sleep at night. She likes mojitos and other things. She’s gots good style. And most of all, because she wants to go places most people would never want to go, like the crazy bunny lady’s house (eek).
To say hi, I love you, I’m thinking of you and I miss you, I sent her little package. Des loves Frida Kahlo and Latin-inspired art so I made her this little two-sided Frida necklace. Des also wears glasses — always super cute ones — so I sewed her up a little coffee cozy to keep her hands from getting too warm this winter. And I wrote her a little photo note of glass Latin skeletons I photographed in Sacramento.
