I love when surprise parties are actually pulled off. Laura’s father thought he was meeting family for dinner at his favorite Lodi Mexican restaurant, La Fuente. She told him that I was participating in an art show in the courtyard behind the restaurant and asked him to go walk out with her. When he turned the corner, the courtyard was filled with friends and family who were all there to celebrate his 60th birthday.
Colorful papel picado hung between brick walls and lamp posts. Throughout the night, guests posed with wooden cutouts of a cactus and mariachi Laura and Val painted (I glued sequins). There were party favors of potted plans and mini bottles of tequila. And the pinata. It was a real pinata straight out of Mexico. I’m not gonna lie, I had a little crush on the mariachi with his twisted mustache, and I’m a little obsessed with the papel picado (as you can tell by all the pictures of them both).
It was a wonderful evening, and I think everyone enjoyed the margaritas, chili verde and chili rellenos.I hope you enjoy the pictures and maybe get a little inspired to throw your own fiesta.
