Hi there, thank for visiting my little photo-blog world. My name is Lauren Nelson and I am a wedding/life photographer and writer.
The Urban Hippie is a tab of everything I love and everything I live: Photos, weekends, travels, people, food and friendships.
I celebrate the small things in life, like the kicks I get from hearing a really good song, chunky earrings, bare feet, fat magazines, art and its creators, a child’s innocence and people in love.
I’m a newspaper girl who discovered I love images as much as I do words.
Here are some of my favorite things: Writing and writers. Photographers and their snapshots. Passion. Roadtrips. Dillon Beach. Retro cameras. Soulful eyes. Cozy blankets. Learning new music. Enthusiasm. Cutting up magazines. Dressing up other people. My best friend. Beads. Collages. Retro campers. Thrift stores. Cameras. My longboard. Pretending I know how to play the guitar. Coffee. Exploration. Pink typewriters. Probaby you. Pottery wheels. My birthday. Gypsies. Mod Podge. Bylines. Bumper stickers. Cheesecake and ice cream. “Home” by Edward Sharpe. Art shows. My niece Sophia Loren. San Francisco. My dog, Sara. Cream soda. Beach houses. Inspiration.
Send me a hello note if you would like me to capture a small part of your world, whether it’s a wedding, child or baby, engagement, birthday party or graduation. If you’re just browsing, grab a glass of tea, sit back and enjoy your visit to The Urban Hippie.
xoxo, Lauren

Hey Urban Hippie, I absolutely love your style! I think you’d like pics of my house. We are soul sisters of sorts, at least as far as style goes!Anyway, I want to tell you about the website omgallery.com. If you like paper lanterns, you’ll probably love the silk & bamboo ones there. They also have beautiful silk pillows, etc.
Love this blog. I’m constantly on the look for inspiration – as a pro painter and interior design wanna b. I love the hippie styles and believe you’re never too old to create your own world.

Lauren! Kindred Spirit. It was wonderful to meet you and Maggie and Sarah today. You must return to the village, and walk and shoot. Yesterday’s pics at your dad’s- where is that? ahhh, a farm. OK in common- LOCKE. Im mesmerized by it. But I thought I was the only one that could see it. Right on. I considered living there, having my shop there. Alicia Paulsons Rosy little things, followed for yrs. My blog tip; The Pioneer Woman.com Great tutorials on photoshop/fotog. Remember to bring your Grandma ’round. Your comments suggest you strike a familiar chord with many. Yep, me too.
Aw Cindy, it was so great meeting you and Bella too!. Oh — and Fluffy, of course. We are totally ready to go back to the Village, and we’ll definitely stop by again. I’m so glad you love Locke. It’s one of my favorite places of all time. Now the Village is another favorite. You have such a great little place there. Thanks for the blog tips.
I love your blog. It would appear we share an admiration for crows.

Hi,
I live in Chicago and am new to the wedding videography business. I’m currently designing a website for it, and in the process I stumbled on your site (specifically the 9/28/09 post, “After the Wedding”). I was wondering if you’d allow me to use two of the photos (the first and third, it looks like), and if so, how do you want me to give credit?
Thanks, and obviously, I appreciate the work.
I want to write for/with you. I think you’re amazing.
Lauren, your blog is AWESOME! Thanks for sharing it with us. I’ll visit it often to see what the latest and greatest is in your life. When are you going to come up to Seattle? We’ve got a cousin reunion to have, remember? And trust me, we’ve got lots of material (arts, culture, food, ethnicity, music, etc.) up here for your blog AND your newspaper column. See you soon!

Hello, I really enjoyed your blog! :] I was just curious, but what kind of camera are you using? The photos are incredible, and I what that quality. ha
Thank you, I’m glad you are enjoying my blog. I actually use a Canon 10D, which is quite an old model now (but only a year old to me, since I found it on eBay). I get many of the effects with Photoshop Actions, Totally Rad Actions. There are other actions you can buy or get for free if you google them. Have fun.
